Meet Brooke Richardson, CHIP Intern

Name: Brooke Richardson

What other AHEC programs have you participated in? CHIP is my first AHEC program!

What’s your hometown? Onalaska, WI

What school are you attending? UW-Madison

What is your intended profession/what’s your major? Global health

Why do you want to be a health professional? Why is it important to you? I have always loved working with a variety of individuals and learning more about cultures that are different from my own! One aspect that I really advocate for is Women and Children's Health & Wellbeing, as this personally affects me. I think that it is extremely important to recognize and advocate for societal issues that may not be discussed openly, but impacts a great number of us, like mental health, reproductive rights, and social determinants of health.

Where is your Community Health Internship Program (CHIP) host site? Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center What are you doing there? Social Determinants of Health Patient Screening & Patient Retention Work in the Pharmacy Dept.

Why did you want to participate in CHIP? I wanted to be able to try something new, and experience a community project that I had not previously done before! I also love meeting new people and learning about unfamiliar thoughts and opinions.
