Scenic Rivers AHEC Hosts an Interprofessional Education Workshop

On March 31st, Scenic Rivers hosted an interprofessional education workshop for students in the AHEC Scholars program. During the workshop, students participated in a Pictionary learning activity and an interprofessional Escape Room. Pictionay was a great activity to help students identify ways to communicate their roles and responsibilities to patients, families and other health care professionals. The Escape Room activity challenged the students to use interprofessional communication and collaborative practice to solve a series of puzzles with the end goal of successfully completing the escape room...and they did! Students participating in the workshop represented a variety of health professions programs throughout the state of Wisconsin to include community health, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physician assistant and social work.

AHEC Scholars is a two-year program for health professions students interested in supplementing their education by gaining knowledge and experience in rural and/or underserved settings. We are currently recruiting for the next cohort and the application is expected to open summer 2019. Contact Brittany Thompson should you have any questions about becoming an AHEC Scholar.

Scenic Rivers would like to extend a special thank you to Patricia Campbell from the UW-La Crosse Physician Assistant Studies Program for providing a space in the Health Science Center to host the workshop.
