Rural Health Experience: Viterbo Nursing Students

During the Rural Health Experience on January 15, 2019, 63 Viterbo University nursing students from around the region were able to explore rural and public health first hand as part of their public health nursing course.

Students heard from Shelly Teadt with CouleeCap, learning about the struggles families in poverty face, as well as resources available in the region. Public health nurse, Julie Anderson also shared what her day-to-day looks like at Monroe County Health Department.

Students then visited Vernon Memorial Hospital and heard from staff members about working in a critical access hospital in a rural community. Students were then welcomed at the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care, where hospice and home care are highlighted at this state of the art facility in Viroqua. Students finally visited Scenic Bluffs Community Health Centers, a federally qualified health center offering a myriad of services to the region's residents.
