For this month's student spotlight, we are featuring a student who participated in Wisconsin Express in Boscobel. Learn more about Kristin's involvement with Scenic Rivers AHEC and her plans for the future.
Where are you originally from?
Where did you attend/or currently are attending school?
UW - Eau Claire, College of Nursing
What are your future career/school goals?
I strive to go to graduate school for nursing to study health care policy and advocacy. I want my nursing practice to work with underserved populations.
What did you learn from your first experience with AHEC?
I spend a week in the Boscobel area with Wisconsin Express program learning about incarceration health care and social determinants of health. I learned so much during the week, but I gained so much perspective and empathy.
Do you have plans to take advantage of AHEC programs in the future?
I would like to in the future. I would like to explore the possibilities offered by being an alumni.
What advice would you give to younger students starting to navigate their future in a health care career?
Participate in as many things as you can so that you can see as much as you can. Being in a community can bring totally new perspectives and really change the way that you see an issue.
