For this month's student spotlight, we are featuring a student who has attended one of our Health Careers Camps. Learn more about Emma's involvement with Scenic Rivers AHEC and her plans for the future.
Where are you originally from?
Platteville, WI
Where did you attend/or currently are attending school?
Platteville High School
What are your future career/school goals?
I have been accepted into the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College nursing program and will start in the fall. After I graduate with my Associates Degee of Nursing, I hope to continue my education and get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

What was your first experience with AHEC and what did you learn from it?
My first experience with AHEC was the 2016 AHEC Health Careers Camp in Platteville. I learned a lot about what I wanted to do in the healthcare field. I narrowed down some of my options by learning what I did not enjoy. I then attended camp again the following summer (2017) and found a couple areas of nursing that I am very interested in!
Do you have plans to take advantage of AHEC programs in the future?
I would love to participate in any programs available, especially being a camp counselor - the counselors I had were extremely helpful and fun. I’d love to provide that same experience for other future healthcare professionals.
What advice would you give to younger students starting to navigate their future in a health care career?
Be open minded - not only about what career you’ll pursue, but schooling options as well. I find that some students can be very close minded and miss out on some awesome opportunities! Also, talk to others who are interested in the health field. Sometimes these are some of the best, most eye-opening conversations you’ll have about your future career!
