For this month's student spotlight, we are featuring a student who has attended Hands on Health events and participated in AHEConnect. Learn more about Emma's involvement with Scenic Rivers AHEC.
Where are you originally from?
La Crosse, WI
Where did you attend/or currently are attending school?
La Crosse Central High School
What are your future career/school goals?
I have a variety in mind but I would like to either become a Physician, Occupational Therapist, or a Physical Therapist.

What was your first experience with AHEC and what did you learn from it?
I went to a hands on health day at Gundersen's ICE House and learned so many things. I learned more about being a Surgeon, Occupation Therapist, Nurse and so many more great medical jobs. I also had the chance to perform life saving techniques with EMTs, make and remove a cast for a small child, and find the pulse and blood pressure. (All of these were performed on very high tech mannequins) Overall the experience opened my eyes to many different things.
Did you continue to participate in any AHEC programs such as camp counselor, AHEC alumni or AHEConnect?
Various Hands on Health Days, and AHEConnect
What advice would you give to younger students starting to navigate their future in a health care career? I would say to go to as many of these programs that interest you. It is hard for high school students to get job shadows or anything like that in the medical field so AHEC is a great way to get all of your questions answered.
