Student Spotlight: Dominic Glodowski

Where did you attend/or currently are attending school? (high school, university, etc)

Arcadia High School in Wisconsin

What would you like to do in healthcare?

This fall I will be attending Viterbo University, dual majoring in biology and biopsychology. After completing my undergraduate, I plan to further my education into medical school to become a surgeon.

What was your first AHEC experience?

My first experience with AHEC was Hands-on-Health at Tri-County. It was an excellent event where I was able to participate in activities that I have not done before. The healthcare professionals at the event were very insightful and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Hands-on Health to other students interested in a healthcare career.

What other AHEC programming have you utilized or plan to participate in?

I am currently involved in the AHEConnect program which has allowed me to receive wisdom and guidance from a college student and a health professional. This program provided me with opportunities, such as job shadows, that wouldn’t be possible with AHEConnect. Also, this past November I had the opportunity to participate at the Exploratory Surgery Day. It was a great learning experience because I was able to become familiar with the operating room and procedures. The Exploratory Surgery Day is an event that I will never forget.

Do you have plans to take advantage of AHEC programs in the future? (internship, alumni?)

Absolutely, one program that interests me in particular would be AHEConnect. My involvement in the program this year has been extremely beneficial. I plan to become a mentor and share insight from my experiences with students who are pursuing a healthcare career.

What advice would you give to younger students starting to navigate their future in a health care career?

My advice to other students interested in a healthcare careers would be to immerse and connect with others who share your passion. Receive a variety of experiences, you never know what will interest you. Also, when pursuing a healthcare career it is essential to know your purpose, when you express your purpose you and those around you will be motivated.
