Where are you originally from?
Where did you attend/or currently are attending school? (high school, university, etc)
University of Wisconsin La Crosse
What do you hope to do in the future?
I am an aspiring physician so I will go to medical school in the near future. I will also be returning to graduate school to earn my Master of Public Health degree.
What was your first experience with AHEC and what did you learn from it?
My first experience was as a counselor during the Scenic Rivers Healthcare Careers Camp where I had the fun chance to take high school students to various healthcare facilities to explore numerous career paths. I learned about the large impact one can have in public health and other healthcare paths. AHEC was where I discovered my passion for public health after exploring these healthcare facilities with the high school students and speaking to professionals. Ironic to be learning from the camp even as a counselor! I also was able to further develop relationships with people inside and outside AHEC like Liz Arnold, Director of Global Partners at Gundersen Health System, where I furthered my interest in both public and global health.
Did you continue to participate in any AHEC programs such as camp counselor, AHEC alumni or AHEConnect?
I am excited to be participating in the AHEConnect and AHEC Alumni programs.
Do you have plans to take advantage of AHEC programs in the future?
Yes, I have been given the opportunity to be a Milwaukee CHIP intern with the Greenfield Health Department for summer 2015.
What advice would you give to younger students starting to navigate their future in a health care career?
The best two things I can say for certain is try to get experiences and look at as many different paths within healthcare as possible, you never know what path may inspire you. Make sure to ask yourself why you want this career and understand how it fits your own interests. Lastly, always strive to learn and look to help other people because you never know where it could become valuable in the future.
