Student Spotlight: Shira Busch

Where did you attend/or currently are attending school? (high school, university, etc)

La Crosse Central High School Student

When did you first participate in a Scenic Rivers AHEC program?

My first encounter with AHEC was last summer (2014) when I was a camper at the Health Careers Camp in La Crosse. During the week, I met some high school students who were also there to learn about careers in health. I had a great time and I still stay in touch with some of the students today.

What was the most valuable experience you had at camp?

The job shadows that we were able to participate in were more involved and more detailed than I had imagined. The instructors worked with every camper. After the job shadows were over for the day, we were able to share our days with other students during the evening meals (great food) and the time afterward.

Have you participated in any other AHEC programming?
I connected with AHEC again during the school year for a day of job shadowing through my Future Center Advisor, Hayley Moe, at Central High School. Recently, I was chosen to participate in AHEC'S AHEConnect, Scenic Rivers' first ever mentoring program.

What advice would you give to younger students starting to navigate their future in a health care career?

"My advice to other students would be to explore as many options as possible, because you can never take advantage of too many experiences!"
