Interprofessional education and practice provide an opportunity to collaboratively address healthcare, improving health outcomes and reducing costs. Students from multiple disciplines come together to learn about one another’s scopes of practice, improve their communication and conflict management skills, and reflect on their role as a team member in patient care.

Scenic Rivers AHEC supports the following IPE programming:

Interprofessional Case Competition

This annual event brings together students in interprofessional teams to address a patient case. Students create a summary of their response to the case, develop a budget for their proposal, and compete against teams from across the state for a chance to present in person to a panel of judges. Selected teams gather in the Wisconsin Dells to compete for cash prizes. This intense experience also provides an opportunity to talk with practicing professionals in various disciplines during the interprofessional village, which takes place simultaneously with the interprofessional case competition presentations.

IPE 1.0 and IPE 2.0

An event engaging students from across two campuses in La Crosse: Viterbo University nursing, dietetics, and social work students along with University of WI-La Crosse physician assistant, physical therapy, and occupational therapy students. Faculty from these programs developed standardized patients to which teams of students provide care. During this simulation activity, students participate in guided reflection to enhance their future practice.
