Last week, Scenic Rivers AHEC attended the MPHA Conference to present alongside the American Cancer Society and the American Indian Cancer Foundation to discuss what HPV is, how the vaccine prevents multiple types of cancer, and how HPV and the vaccination effects the American Indian population differently than the general population. Hands on Health Day: UW-L Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy Programs
High school students from the Scenic Rivers AHEC region visited Mayo Clinic Health System, yesterday to learn more about occupational and physical therapy careers. Graduate students in the OT & PT programs from UW-La Crosse led the students through simulated cases and treatments. Scenic Rivers AHEC provided an overview and educational paths for physical and occupational therapy careers. See photos from the event below.


Adventures in Healthcare
On Friday, 45 students from Logan, Longfellow, and Lincoln Middle Schools attended the Adventures in Healthcare event to explore healthcare careers. The students arrived at the Boys & Girls Club to participate in the event, planned by the Gundersen Health System Volunteer Services along with Scenic Rivers AHEC. Hands on Health Day: Bangor, La Crosse, Onalaska, Luther, Sparta and Viroqua
Hands on Health day starts with individual student job shadows with healthcare professionals, followed by simulations in the world class simulation labs at the Integrated Center for Education (ICE House) at Gundersen Health System at the La Crosse campus. This day included teen volunteers at Gundersen and students from Bangor, La Crosse, Onalaska, Luther, Sparta and Viroqua schools. See photos from the event below.
